Lake Titicaca and the Floating Islands of the Uros

You’ll witness the sun rise over the bright blue waters of Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world and according to Andean legend, the birthplace of the sun. Following breakfast on board you’ll take a boat trip to the Uros Islands, man-made of totora reeds, and Taquile, where you’ll enjoy a private lunch with displays of local crafts and traditional dancing.

Sumbay Caves

Indulge in a delicious breakfast before discovering the 500 fascinating cave paintings of human and animal figures lining the walls of the Sumbay Caves, estimated to be over 8000 years old. It’s believed that the cave would have been inhabited between 5,800 and 3,000 years before our era, by the first hunters of the Colca.

Twin Bed Cabins

Where does the Andean Explorer route begin and end?

The Andean Explorer offers four itineraries with different embark and disembark points:

What is the dress code on board Andean Explorer?

Whilst there is no official dress code for the Belmond Andean Explorer, this five-star train offers guests the chance to dress up for dinner so make sure you take a few smart outfits with you. You’ll also need casual wear for the daytime excursions.

Is Andean Explorer trip all-inclusive?

Yes, each of the four journeys are fully inclusive of all meals, drinks and scheduled excursions.

Do you sleep on the Andean Explorer trip?

Yes, all four itineraries vary between one- and two-night durations, so you will enjoy a comfortable and cosy night’s stay on board the train.

When does the Andean Explorer run?

The Andean Explorer offers four itineraries with set departure dates:

Peruvian Highlands – departs every Thursday morning.

Andean Plains and Islands of Discovery – departs every Saturday night.

Spirit of the Water – departs every Tuesday morning.

Spirit of the Andes – departs every Wednesday at midday.

The Andean Explorer does not run in February.

Are there any passport and/or visa requirements?

If you are not a Peruvian citizen, you must have a valid passport that will remain valid beyond the duration of your journey. Depending on which country issues your passport, you may need a visa for entry into Peru. Please check with your travel agent or government agency before travelling.

What is included in the rate?

A journey on the Andean Explorer includes:
